How to Prepare a Phone Before Selling It
A privacy-first checklist for backing up data, removing accounts and resetting a phone before selling or giving it away.
Before transferring a phone to another person, protect your data and make sure the next owner can activate the device legitimately.
Back up and transfer
Confirm your contacts, photos and important files are backed up or transferred. Verify the backup before deleting the local copy.
Remove accounts properly
Follow the manufacturer’s official steps to sign out and disable device-finding or activation-lock features where appropriate. This helps prevent the next owner from being blocked by your account.
Reset and document
Use the built-in factory-reset process, remove physical SIM and memory cards, and provide a receipt if available. Do not sell a device you do not have the right to transfer.
